Story of Yoga

Yoga has been practised in India for thousands of years, evolving into one of the world's oldest and most enduring systems for wellbeing, self-discovery, and purposeful living. Rooted in ancient Indian philosophy, yoga continues to guide millions of people around the world towards greater balance, awareness, and inner harmony.

The word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit root "Yuj," meaning to unite or to bring together. It represents the union of body, mind, breath, and spirit while cultivating a deeper connection with ourselves, with others, and with the world around us. At its essence, yoga is a lifelong practice of living with greater awareness, presence, and balance.

For centuries, this wisdom was preserved through the guru–shishya (teacher–student) tradition before being beautifully systemised by Sage Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras. His teachings introduced the Eight Limbs of Yoga - a practical framework encompassing ethical living, self-discipline, physical practice (asana), breathwork (pranayama), concentration (dharana), meditation (dhyana), and ultimately, self-realisation (samadhi). Together, these principles continue to provide a timeless guide for living a balanced and meaningful life.

As yoga evolved across generations and regions, different traditions and teaching styles emerged, including Hatha, Vinyasa, Iyengar, Ashtanga, Yin, Kundalini, Restorative, and many others. While each offers a unique approach to practice, they are all rooted in the same philosophy of cultivating greater health, clarity, resilience, and inner harmony.

Thousands of years later, yoga remains as relevant as ever. In today's fast-paced world, its teachings offer practical tools for improving physical wellbeing, cultivating mental clarity, managing stress, building emotional resilience, deepening self-awareness, and nurturing spiritual growth. It is this timeless wisdom that continues to transcend cultures, generations, and borders, making yoga one of the world's most widely practised and respected traditions.

At The Adhisha, these principles form the foundation of everything we do. Just as Yoga represents union, balance, and harmony, Adhisha reflects our belief in returning to our original nature—a place of balance, wholeness, and inner connection. This philosophy shapes our programmes, our teaching, and every experience we create, helping students integrate the wisdom of yoga into everyday life. As you explore the many benefits of yoga, you'll discover how this timeless practice continues to support physical wellbeing, mental clarity, emotional resilience, spiritual growth, and a deeper connection with yourself and the world around you.

Becoming a Yoga Teacher

What is a Yoga Teacher Training Course (TTC)?

A Yoga Teacher Training Course (TTC) is a comprehensive and immersive programme designed to prepare you to teach yoga with confidence while deepening your own understanding and practice. A TTC combines practical training, teaching experience, and yogic wisdom into an intensive, hands-on learning journey. At The Adhisha, we offer both 200-Hour and 300-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Courses, catering to different stages of your learning journey. Our 200-Hour TTC is ideal for practitioners seeking a strong foundation; and our 300-Hour TTC is designed for certified teachers ready to deepen their expertise and expand their teaching.

Why do a Yoga Teacher Training?

A TTC equips you with the knowledge, practical skills, and internationally recognised certification to teach yoga globally. It also helps you develop a disciplined personal practice, understand the principles behind what you teach, build confidence in guiding others, and learn how to teach safely, effectively, and authentically.

Is a TTC right for you?

A TTC is suitable whether you're completely new to yoga, looking to deepen an existing practice, or considering a career in health and wellbeing. Some students join to enrich their personal journey, while others aspire to teach at yoga schools and studios, lead retreats, work independently, or establish their own yoga business. Whatever your goal, the right training provides a strong foundation to move forward with confidence.
